Antiarthritic Potential of Calotropis procera Leaf Fractions in FCA-Induced Arthritic Rats: Involvement of Cellular Inflammatory Mediators and Other Biomarkers

Calotropis procera (commonly known as Swallow wort) is described in the Ayurvedic literature for treatment of inflammation and arthritic disorders. Therefore, present work, antiarthritic activity potential fractions wort leaf was evaluated compared with standards (indomethacin ibuprofen). This study designed Wistar rats investigation acute toxicity wort. Arthritis induced by injecting 0.1 mL Freund’s complete adjuvant (FCA) on 1st 7th days subcutaneously into subplantar region left hind paw. Evaluation our experimental findings suggested that methanol fraction (MFCP) greater than ethyl acetate (EAFCP), equal to standard ibuprofen, slightly lower indomethacin. MFCP significantly reduced paw edema 17th, 21st, 24th, 28th days. It also showed significant effect (p < 0.01) score, withdrawal latency, body weight. The inhibition serum lysosomal enzymes proinflammatory cytokines along improvement radiographic features legs recorded MFCP. Finally, it concluded can be a feasible therapeutic candidate inflammatory arthritis.
